Viva Las Vegas!

My brother and his family recently relocated to Las Vegas which makes it much easier for me to visit them. The last time I saw him was in the Philippines about five years ago! He’s now married with children. I took the first chance I got to book a flight to Vegas. The bonus? I’ve never been there so it is a vacation and family time all in one. My mom was also visiting at the same time. What a treat!

My overall impression was good. It reminded me of Colorado, with the dry weather and high altitude. It was in the 90s but it felt comfortable because of the low humidity. Most of the town is fairly new due to the recent influx of retirees and others looking for affordable housing. Goods were pretty affordable unless you go in the casinos where they had tourist prices.

Welcome lunch at Nanay Gloria’s Buffet. Munggo (mung bean stew), lechon kawali (roasted pork belly), and pancit bihon (rice noodles).

I suffered through security and the limited space in the plane to hand-carry my (now famous) Tiramisu Cake. Recipe adapted from Smitten Kitchen.

The famous sign

I was impressed with The Venetian. Not only by its grandeur but by how Venice was replicated down to the last detail.

Sidewalk cafés just like all over Europe.

St Mark’s Square with “wet” cobblestones and fake “sky”.

One of my hometown favorites chickenjoy from Jollibee.

The Anthem neighborhood has a fabulous view of the the strip.

We had a tasty Korean dinner at Soyo. Look at their cool booths!

I am looking forward to my next trip to fabulous Las Vegas 🙂

[…] In September Charlotte went to Las Vegas where her brother Eric and family have recently moved. For years she’s been trying to convince me to go there on vacation, but I’ve already been so I wasn’t that interested in going again just to see some new casinos. However, now that her brother lives there we have a better reason to visit, and there are lots of cool places within a day’s drive from Las Vegas (like area 51 ). This time I stayed home to dog-sit Mulder so he wouldn’t have to go to the Pet Hotel again, but we’ll likely visit more often since they are much closer now. Charlotte enjoyed the trip and wrote a blog about Las Vegas. […]
