Homemade Dog Food

Have you ever tried making dog food at home? I thought I would give it a try. I guess just like with humans, the more wholesome the food is, the better for the dog. I found this recipe online but I do not recall the website. Since I am not sure how balanced this is, I added it to Mulder’s normal kibble dinner which is Ultramix.

Turkey Dog Food

1 lb ground turkey
1 bag frozen peas and carrots, rinsed
1 cup uncooked brown rice
sea salt (optional)

1. Cook the brown rice per package directions.
2. Sauté the turkey in a pan until all juices are gone.
3. Add peas and carrots to the turkey mix. Season with salt if desired (I only added a very small amount). Cook until all juices are gone.
4. Add cooked brown rice to the turkey mixture.
5. Cool and serve.

I divided it into three portions, one for this week and two for freezing. Since I am adding it to kibble, I don’t need much for each meal.

Do you have other homemade dog food recipes?

What I’m curious about is if Mulder actually ate it. Barkley will eat certain things, but never vegetables, however, perhaps the turkey provided enough yum factor. :-)

Yes, he loved it!

Sometimes I put plain peas and carrots with his kibble and he does not eat all the carrots.
