Sometimes random events do not need an entire post so I am starting a new series of Random Thoughts.

1. On a recent trip to IKEA, we found this tent for Mulder. He loves it but we put it away when we are not home for safety.

2. We need a natural weed killer and fertilizer for our lawn. Any ideas? I found this fertilizer from a post on CARE2 that looks good. I am hoping there is something local we can pick up.

3. I have a new phone! I am not a gadget person and usually keep my life simple but I finally moved into the 21st century! (Photo taken from Google)

4. We expanded our garden with more raised beds. Marcel is busy with woodworking and digging.

5. We are turning into karaoke fanatics with this new system we just bought!

Island Cafe is listed in Portland Pooch as a dog-friendly restaurant. The set up is like a tiki bar with a nice view of the Columbia River.

After lunch we headed to the NW Pet and Companion Fair where we saw all kinds of doggies and pet goodies.

Mulder “hunted” for a tennis ball.  It was a fun event but not cheap.

A stop at Chimney Park ended Mulder’s day out on a good note. He was a satisfied and tired doggie.

For a long time we believed that Mulder was a Hound-Mix Dog. That’s what the Shelter Volunteers said and besides he’s got the eyes and ears of one. Strangers would always try to guess what kind of dog he was and the more common guesses were German Shepherd, Rottweiler, and Great Dane because of his long legs.

Finally, we were able to get a DNA test for him. The results showed that he is more than 50% Chesapeake Bay Retriever and at least 25% Korean Jindo. The rest contains some trace of Shetland Sheepdog which they indicated with “low confidence” on the report .

What a pleasant surprise! Mulder is not a Heinz 57 (what Vets call dogs with unknown origins) dog anymore. It was eye opening and now we feel that we know him more.
